Fun facts about the heart
- Throughout the Animal Kingdom, bigger-bodied organisms usually have slower heart rates (e.g. Blue whale's is around 5 bpm)
- Cardiomyopathy, weakening of the heart muscle, is sometimes referred to as "broken heart syndrome" since a strong emotional stress may lead to this condition
- While humans do not ever actually have "blue blood," some organisms such as Mollusks have blood that turns blue upon being oxygenated due to a protein called hemocyanin
